COVID-19 – stay safe and keep in touch!
The 50th anniversary of the closure of East Lincolnshire’s railway network in October 1970 will sadly be much quieter than we hoped because of the deteriorating worldwide Coronavirus situation.
In common with everyone else, we are now unable to promise any ELR50 events that encourage community contact, so much of the activity we have planned to mark this significant date will have to be curtailed.
However, we hope that at least some of it will still run if the pandemic is quickly overcome, even if the dates change. Because the ELR50 anniversary year actually runs until October 2021, it may well be possible to do some rescheduling into next year.
This announcement overrides the rest of this website, which have not altered because it is a document to remind you of the flavour of what we hoped to offer.
+ No decision has yet been made on the ELR50 exhibition at Batemans Visitor Centre at Wainfleet, which is due to open on August 1st, and you can expect regular postings to be made on the elr50c.co.uk website and its associated Facebook page.
+ The Lincolnshire Wolds Railway will be making its own announcements – visit their website www.lincolnshirewoldsrailway.co.uk for the latest details.
+ The June gala event at Sutton-on-Sea will clearly have to be postponed, and we are unclear about what will now happen in Mablethorpe at the end of September.
+ The same goes for the planned London King’s Cross-Skegness excursion behind ‘Royal Scot’ in September. We were still discussing the details of the tour when the Coronavirus epidemic worsened in mid-March, and it is now evident that it will not be possible to go ahead with it in the format we intended.
We had thankfully not opened for any bookings, so no obligations have been breached, and there are no disappointing refunds that need to be made.
Stay safe, and keep in touch!

Lincolnshire Wolds Railway are working hard to reinstate a 5 mile section of the original East Midlands train line. They urgently need to raise funds to lay track, reinstate signals and replace infrastructure. You can help! All surpluses raised from ELR50 events will be donated to the LWR line Extension fund. By attending ELR50 events and giving generously, your support will help to connect Ludborough to Louth by railway once again.
